The account is no longer good. “Numbers and Letters”, the oldest game on French TV, is ending. At the start of the school year, after more than fifty years of existence, the show disappears from the France Télévisions program schedule, announced the antenna director Stéphane Sitbon-Gomez, in La Tribune Sunday.
“The weekend programming of “Numbers and Letters” was not successful. After fifty years of existence, it is an emblematic meeting. It’s a difficult decision but we made the choice to stop this program,” he said.
Laffont, Cabrol, Romejko, Renard or Boulin-Prat
The show, on the air since 1972, with Patrice Laffont as its first presenter, until 1989, took over from “Word the longest”. At the presentation, there was also Laurent Cabrol (1989-1991) or Laurent Romejko (1992-2006). Other famous names in the game: Bertrand Renard, ex-candidate who officiated on letters, and Arielle Boulin-Prat, on numbers.
In 2006, “Numbers and Letters” moved from France 2 to France 3. In 2022, the game went from daily broadcast to biweekly, on weekends.
