Nuremberg: daycare center completely destroyed by fire – Bavaria

The fire in a new daycare center in Nuremberg caused millions in damage. The building was totally destroyed, a city spokesman said on Tuesday. The fire broke out around noon on Monday at the construction site on Grünenwaldstraße north of the city center. A day later, firefighters were still trying to put out the flames.

According to a fire department spokesman, an excavator should uncover the fire spots from midday so that the emergency services could reach them. The police are now investigating how the fire could have started. According to the city, the new building, which cost twelve million euros, should offer space for 250 children.

According to the city spokesman, the new day care center was supposed to open in September, so construction was already well advanced. Now a day care center is to be built in the same place. Disaster warning apps warned of the smoke development on Monday. An adjacent day care center had been cleared as a precaution, and no one was injured in the fire.
