It’s official: Nigel Farage (59) is moving to the British jungle camp. The former head of the Eurosceptic party Ukip confirmed his participation on “I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here!”. Farage is not the first politician to be involved in the presentation of “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” started.
Matt Hancock
Matt Hancock (45) was British Health Secretary from 2018 to 2020. He had to resign in the summer of 2021 because he broke his own pandemic rules by kissing his girlfriend and colleague.
A good year and a half later, Hancock moved to the Australian jungle. His participation was criticized across the political spectrum. He was thrown out of his Tories group. In the camp he came in third place after being grilled at the campfire by his fellow candidates for his Corona policy.
Matt Hancock promised to donate part of his salary. In the end the sum turned out to be three percent of his £320,000.
Stanley Johnson
The father of former Prime Minister Boris Johnson (59) took part in “I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out of Here!” in 2017. Part. During the show, the now 83-year-old formed an unlikely friendship with the future queen of the jungle, the reality star Georgia Toffolo (29). He later shot other formats with her.
As a politician, Stanley Johnson was, among other things, a member of the European Parliament and is considered an expert on environmental and population policy.
Nadine Dorries and Co.
In 2012, Nadine Dorries (66) became the first active member of Parliament to move to the jungle camp. Of course that caused trouble. Because she had not logged off properly, she suspended her group. There was also stress as she refused to disclose her income from the show. Nadine Dorries later made a career under Boris Johnson. She was Minister for Culture, Media and Sport under him.
In addition to the dazzling figures mentioned, three politicians were candidates for “I’m a Celebrity”: Lembit Öpik (58), Robert Kilroy-Silk (81) and the Scottish Kezia Dugdale (42).
Germany: Günther Krause as an exception
While Australia, in addition to Great Britain, has no reservations about making contact with three politicians taking part, in Germany it is difficult to connect the show and politics.
The exception is Günther Krause (70). In 2020, the former transport minister checked in on “I’m a star – get me out of here!” a. After just one day, the scandal-ridden politician left the jungle camp for health reasons.
