“Nolwenn is my fairy godmother”, says Loris, who won the “cross battles”

He sang Hell and ended up in heaven. The Swiss Loris, 17, won his cross battle in The Voice Saturday on TF1 against her compatriot Emilie. The talent of Marc Lavoine’s team has thus won its ticket to the super cross battles of the next week. A reason for satisfaction all the greater since Loris, on whom no coach had turned around during the blind auditions, owed his salvation to the second chance offered to him by Nolwenn Leroy.

You got almost 75% of the public votes. What does that remind you of?

Honestly, not much. I sang with and not against a friend, Emilie, whom I met a few months ago at a singing competition. She would have deserved just as much as me to win with 75% of the vote. This score is for me very secondary compared to the rest. This cross battle was very complicated emotionally.

What was stressing you out?

The problem wasn’t stress. It was difficult for me to sing against a friend. It was emotionally complicated. We were the last two Swiss on this adventure. We wanted to go as far as possible, as compatriots and as friends. And unfortunately we ended up singing against each other.

You have chosen to perform “L’Enfer”. Why ?

Stromae is an artist that I admire. He is a genius in his writing, in his relationship to marketing. His song, which evokes depression, burnout, suicidal thoughts, spoke to many people in France, in the Francophonie and even beyond. This text touched and marked me. At the time of filming the cross battle, Hell was very recent, it had come out two or three weeks earlier. Stromae interprets it in his own way, with restraint, I wanted to exteriorize the emotions, start calm and let a form of violence burst. Marc Lavoine told me that on this kind of music, I had to expose myself, to tell my truth.

You qualified for the “super cross battles” even though no coach turned on you during the blind auditions. Is it revenge in some way?

I put myself in the shoes of the coaches, blind auditions are never easy. At no time did I feel revenge. Above all, I wanted to prove to myself that I had my place in The Voice and that I could do better than what I offered at the blind auditions.

Nolwenn Leroy is your good fairy?

It’s Aunt Nolwenn! (laughs) Yes, she is my good fairy, she gave me this second chance which I took. I won’t be here without her. She is my lucky star. We stayed in touch. With Jean Palau [l’autre candidat dont elle a permis le repêchage aux battles], it boosts us, it motivates us, it sends us messages. She is really there to accompany us.
