No money for the Dachau concentration camp memorial? A comment – Dachau

The application for funding for a forward-looking project at the Dachau concentration camp memorial appears to have been rejected. For formal reasons, as they say. But why didn’t the federal government seek talks with Bayern?

A no by the Minister of State for Culture, Claudia Roth, to the application for funding for the concentration camp memorial – and all indications point to this – would be a catastrophe for the learning and memorial site of Dachau and for the new overall concept of the Free State of Bavaria for the culture of remembrance. The current project, the renovation of the two reconstructed barracks with a new exhibition and an education center, is fundamental to the planned redesign of Germany’s most important concentration camp memorial.
