“No, I prefer your sister”, Materazzi explains how he had Zidane unpinned

Marco Materazzi has given new explanations for his altercation with Zinedine Zidane in the 2006 World Cup final. In an interview on the YouTube channel IFTV, the former Italian defender confirms having made insulting remarks towards Zizou, before taking the famous whim of the French star.

Marco Materazzi first puts his words into perspective by evoking “trash-talking like in the NBA, my trash-talking, it was nothing compared to real trash-talking”, before confiding his words spoken towards number 10 of the Blues. “He told me he would give me his jersey. I said, ‘No, I prefer your sister,'” he said.

“I didn’t expect it, it was crazy,” he said of Zinédine Zidane’s reaction, while explaining that he “felt nothing” at the time despite his grimaces of pain. The former Italy defender retired in 2011.
