To accomplish his quest, Roger Federer will first have to eliminate Adrian Mannarino. The French, 42nd in the world, will be the first opponent at Wimbledon for the almost forty-something (the Swiss will celebrate his 40th birthday on August 8). Federer, 8th in the ATP standings, hopes to win a ninth coronation on London turf, synonymous with the 21st title and therefore a Grand Slam record. The big favorite Novak Djokovic, already winner this year of the Australian Open and then of Roland Garros, inherited to him to start from the Briton Jack Draper (250th and guest).
Federer’s path to Wimbledon title:
1R: Mannarino
2R: Gasquet / Sugita
3R: Norrie
4R: Carreno Busta
QF: Medvedev
SF: Zverev / Berrettini
F: Djokovic / Tsitsipas– Luigi Gatto (@ gigicat7_) June 25, 2021
Federer and Djokovic can only meet in the final, for a remake of the 2019 final where the Serbian had saved two match points before winning. For this, the non-underground Helvetian should have Richard Gasquet or the Japanese Yuichi Sugita in the second round, Daniil Medvedev (2nd) in the quarterfinals, then Alexander Zverev (6th) or Matteo Berrettini (9th) in the semi-finals.
A tantalizing Humbert-Kyrgios
For his part, the Serbian could face Andrey Rublev (7th) or Jannik Sinner (23rd) in the quarters, then Stefanos Tsitsipas (4th) in the semi-finals.
The first round will be difficult for the French Ugo Humbert (25th), winner on the grass of Halle and who will face the fantastic Australian Nick Kyrgios (61st) to start.
