With a shooting star as a guest: No Doubt celebrated their comeback at the Coachella Festival after a break of almost ten years.
Olivia Rodrigo loves No Doubt
At “Bathwater” Stefani and Co. received prominent support from a new pop generation: Olivia Rodrigo (21) took the stage. The multiple Grammy winner (including Best New Artist 2022) wore a white tank top with the words “I Love ND”. She sang alternately with Gwen Stefani, who opened many doors for front women in pop in her career.
When Bathwater was released in 2000, Olivia Rodrigo wasn’t even born yet. At No Doubt’s last gig she was just nine years old. After her guest appearance, she mingled according to media reports into the audience and cheered for the band in front of the stage. No Doubt will perform again at the Coachella Festival next Saturday.
No Doubt: Breakups and Reunions
No Doubt formed in 1986 as a cover band for British ska legends Madness. Gwen Stefani and her brother Eric Stefani (56) were one of the founding members. The breakthrough didn’t come until ten years later, when “Don’t Speak” became a global radio hit. In this song, Gwen Stefani processed her separation from Tony Kanal (53), who is still the bassist for No Doubt.
No Doubt split up in 2005 after Gwen Stefani released her first solo album “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” a year earlier. had published. In 2008 the Californians announced a comeback, and their sixth and last album “Push and Shove” was released in 2012. In the years that followed, the band only performed sporadically, for the last time in 2015.
For the latest comeback, Gwen Stefani first had to learn the old song lyrics, as she revealed on the TV show “Jimmy Kimmel Live”. But the biggest challenge is not having to vomit when listening to the old songs, she said in an interview with “Audacy Check In”. The songs stirred up memories: “I can’t listen to many of the songs because they speak to me so clearly,” said Stefani. “It’s about regretting something and making mistakes. Most of the songs are about that.”
