Nine months of work on boulevard de la Prairie-au-duc, what are the consequences?

It is one of the busiest boulevards in the city of Nantes. A major axis for some of the inhabitants wishing to connect the north and the south of the Loire without having to resort to the ring road. Boulevard de la Prairie-au-duc, west of the island of Nantes, will start work from Monday, January 23. The project will be long since it should last nearly nine months in total. With necessarily unfortunate consequences for traffic. The objective will be to modernize the aging sanitation network (wastewater) in order to “bring it into compliance” and “prepare for future needs” linked to the arrival of new inhabitants and services in this rapidly developing district, explains Nantes metropolis.

The work, considered “complex”, will be carried out in stages at the rate of an advance of three meters per day. The entire boulevard will therefore not be disturbed at the same time. Four major sequences have been planned. The first phase, until February 12, will stretch from the south of the Nefs to the boulevard Léon-Bureau. The western part of boulevard de la Prairie-au-duc (towards the quai des Antilles) will then be closed.

The hardest from February 13

The second phase, from February 13 to May 14, will be more robust since the operation will spread out, this time, near the House of Trade Unions. Boulevard de la Prairie-au-duc will then be completely closed to traffic, from Place de la République to Quai des Antilles. The terminus of the L5 will be at République. Dust and odor nuisance are also possible

From May 15, traffic will resume between Boulevard Léon-Bureau and the Quai des Antilles, but the work will remain intense on the eastern part. It will be necessary to wait until the end of the fourth phase, at the beginning of September, to achieve the release of the entire section. Until then, “the closed roads will remain accessible to local residents and deliveries, as far as possible”, warns Nantes Métropole, aware of the “complex period” which is looming in the sector. The cost of the project will be around 4 million euros.
