Nine indicted in teenage prostitution case

The victims are aged 14 to 17 and lived in a departmental home in the city of Saint Pierre, south of the island. A woman and eight men have been indicted in Reunion in a case of prostitution of minors who resided in a child protection home, we learned Thursday from the Saint-Pierre prosecutor’s office. The defendants appeared in court on March 31.

The woman, in her twenties, was placed in pre-trial detention for pimping, said the public prosecutor in Saint-Pierre, Caroline Calbo, confirming information from the Journal of Reunion Island.

Tariffed relationships

The eight men, who had paid relationships with minors, were indicted and placed under judicial supervision for resorting to prostitution as a minor, said the magistrate. The facts had been brought to the attention of justice in June 2022, when one of the young girls had filed a complaint.

A judicial investigation had been opened for “aggravated pimping on a minor aged 15” and “aggravated pimping on a minor aged 15 to 18”, declared the prosecution without giving more details on “this file under investigation”.
