Nicolas Sarkozy writes about art – culture

Nicolas Sarkozy, the ex-president of the French recently put on his ankle, has written a tome. About art. His people are perplexed. And the book quite touching.

So far, Nicolas Sarkozy has only been associated with high culture insofar as it was he who inspired Yasmina Reza to write one of her best books. “Early in the morning, in the evening or at night” was released in 2007, the year Sarkozy was elected president. Reza had accompanied his election campaign for a year, and she describes him as a relatively small man who wants to compete against nothing less than transience. Understandably, this man, whom the French will refer to as “le petit Nicolas”, is driven by great unrest, he is someone who approaches things straight away instead of hesitating for a long time, not a depraved cynic, but a grown-up boy who is full of amazement about the position in which he has made it, and who is now trying not to show his amazement in a statesmanlike way, which of course does not succeed. And so he always looks a bit like Louis de Funès in his films, just in real life and as President instead of as flic in St. Tropez.
