Now Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg’s change is perfect: next year he will drive for Sauber and then for the car manufacturer from Ingolstadt.

Formula 1 driver Nico Hülkenberg is leaving the Haas racing team at the end of the season and moving to the Sauber team for the Audi project. The US team Haas confirmed on Friday that Hülkenberg would be leaving at the end of this World Cup year, and shortly afterwards Audi announced the commitment of the 36-year-old Rhinelander.

The car manufacturer from Ingolstadt announced that Hülkenberg had signed a multi-year contract and would drive for the Kick Sauber team next year. In 2026, Hülkenberg will start as an Audi works driver in Formula 1.

Audi is taking over the Swiss Sauber team and wants to join as a works team in 2026. In two years, a major engine reform will take effect in Formula 1, which could reshuffle the balance of power. Hülkenberg brings with him the experience of more than 200 Grand Prix.

He came to Haas last season after a three-year break as the successor to Mick Schumacher – son of Formula 1 legend Michael Schumacher. But he often drove behind in the usually inferior car. This season, Hülkenberg is 13th overall after five races.
