News in brief – Twitter introduces edit function – Economy

After years of discussions and demands from users such as tech billionaire Elon Musk, the short message service Twitter has announced that it will test a so-called edit button for post-editing tweets. The function will initially only be introduced as a pilot project for subscribers to the payment service Twitter Blue. “Within a short period of time there is the possibility, for example, to correct typos and add missing tags,” explained Twitter. During the test phase, tweets can therefore be edited a few times within 30 minutes of their publication. Changes should then be made visible with a symbol, a time stamp and a label. “We really hope that with the availability of the editing function, tweeting will feel easier and less stressful,” said Jolanta Baboulidis, head of Twitter Germany. Demands for an edit button have been around for a long time. In April, Elon Musk – after joining Twitter as an investor – launched a survey on the edit button. The proposal met with great approval among users. However, there are also concerns about the function, for example that tweets could be modified after they went viral, their core message could be distorted or misused for propaganda.
