The US has once again blacklisted Chinese companies. The leadership in Beijing criticized the procedure as “economic harassment” and announced countermeasures.

Another 36 Chinese companies are now on a US blacklist. This week, the US government reinstated economic sanctions on China about two months after restricting the supply of advanced semiconductors and equipment to make such chips to China.

Among the companies largely denied access to American products, software and technology in this way is one of the leading Chinese chip manufacturers, the Yangtse Memory Technology Corporation (YMTC).

“US Abuses Export Controls”

China’s government has slammed new US restrictions on Chinese companies’ access to American technology as “economic harassment.”

The US is “abusing export controls” to crack down on Chinese companies and institutions, a Commerce Department spokesman said. China will take “necessary measures” to defend its interests.

China files complaint with WTO

The US wants to use trade barriers to prevent Chinese companies from using American technology to modernize the Chinese military or support human rights violations, the US Department of Commerce said.

After the previous restrictions on the chip industry, China had already filed a complaint with the World Trade Organization (WTO) on Monday. The leadership in Beijing wants to take action against the export controls for semiconductor technology that were launched by US President Joe Biden at the end of October.
