The meta group recently fought against falling advertising revenue. Now a subscription model should bring fresh money. Facebook and Instagram users have to pay around twelve dollars a month for the verification hook.
The Instagram and Facebook group Meta is introducing a paid subscription service that allows users to have their accounts verified, among other things. Passport documents must be presented for confirmation. In addition to the usual tick of a verified account, the service should also include direct access to customer support and protection against copycat profiles, the group advertises.
“This new feature is all about increasing the authenticity and security of our services,” founder and chief executive Mark Zuckerberg wrote in a statement. The payment model starts this week in Australia and New Zealand. Other countries would soon follow.
About twelve dollars a month
Meta Verified therefore costs at least $11.99 per month. There will be no changes for accounts on Facebook and Instagram that are already verified. Only users over the age of 18 should be able to subscribe to the service. According to meta information, it is initially not available for companies.
For purchases on iPhones, it should be $14.99. Apple initially charges a fee of 30 percent for subscriptions made on the iPhone.
Advertising models have gone haywire
Meta’s revenue fell four percent last quarter. In addition to the general slowdown in the online advertising market, Facebook and Instagram continue to struggle with Apple’s privacy protections on the iPhone. App developers must ask users for explicit permission if they want to track their behavior across different applications and services in order to personalize advertising. Since many refused this, advertising models got mixed up.
