New novel by Bernhard Schlink “Late Life”: What death teaches us – culture

In this novel, Bernhard Schlink varies the motif used by Michel de Montaigne in his first essay: To philosophize is to learn to die. The late sixteenth-century French philosopher was a man of multiple and very different careers, much like Schlink today. And both return to this fundamental problem with a similar intention, namely to better understand and enjoy life before it more intensively in the light of death that is certain for us all.
