If you need proof, how complex jazz works as a world language, you can listen to two new albums in a row that have been released in the last few weeks. Trumpeter Peter Somuah and drummer Asher Gamedze have little in common other than a continent. Somuah is from Ghana, Gamedze from South Africa. These are both wealthy countries with cosmopolitan cities, but that’s where the parallels end. Somuah and Gamedze aren’t even that close musically, and yet they have a lot in common.
