Disinformation: How to Sell Lies – Politics

The Cheka was already practicing the fine art of disinformation in the 1920s. The Soviet secret police created a fake organization of monarchists on behalf of the now ruling Bolsheviks. This was intended to deceive the real supporters of the Tsarist Empire. The “members” – actually Cheka agents – presented themselves as allies to the real monarchists in exile who dreamed of counter-revolution. All the plans of the tsar’s supporters ended up with the Cheka through this channel. They also used their fake organization as a channel in the other direction and fed monarchists and western secret services with lies: sometimes Tsar supporters had supposedly enforced the communist apparatus, sometimes the Bolsheviks were supposedly invincible militarily.
