BMW CEO Oliver Zipse announced a “big leap in technology” a year ago: The automotive group wants to shift the focus more to e-mobility – and renew everything at the same time: the model range, the drive and production. In 2025, a fully electric sedan in the format of the BMW 3 Series should make the start – based on a next-generation modular system and produced in the new plant in Debrecen, Hungary. For the first model of the “New Class”, BMW wants to develop an 800-volt drive architecture for the first time and use round cells for the battery – comparable to Tesla.
