In Santo Domingo, the capital, a wall collapsed on several vehicles, killing nine people. The rains also isolated 55 communities, 7,060 people were displaced and 2,591 others taken into care.

This is the “heaviest rainfall ever recorded in the Dominican Republic,” according to the COE. On Monday, the Dominican government declared a three-day national mourning in tribute to the victims.
