The number of newly registered cars on Germany’s roads grew more strongly in October than a year ago. The Federal Motor Transport Authority in Flensburg registered around 208,500 new vehicles. However, the trend will probably not last.

In Germany, more cars were newly registered in October than in the same month last year. After the number of registrations in summer remained well below those of previous years, the autumn months approached the level before the corona pandemic again.

At the same time, fewer cars were newly registered in October than in September. 225,000 new registrations were registered here. When it comes to vehicle types, the statistics continue to be led by the SUV (Sports Utility Vehicle) with around 30 percent, ahead of the compact class with 17 percent and off-road vehicles with 12 percent.

More company vehicles – new orders “very bad”

The number of new commercial registrations also continued to rise. Around two out of three new cars were registered to companies. Private registrations increased by 8.4 percent. However, it is already foreseeable that the trend will probably only be temporary. Because in the period from January to October, new registrations shrank. From 2.2 million new cars between January and October in 2021 to 2.08 million in 2022.

According to the Reuters news agency, industry insiders expect this trend to intensify. The problems in production due to missing components – above all the semiconductors required for the electronics – are becoming fewer. Currently, however, the manufacturers are mainly processing existing orders. The situation with new orders is “very bad” at the moment.
