New basin at Les Dervallières and major works at La Petite-Amazonie

Today it only has outdoor pools and is therefore only open in summer. Nestled in the Chézine valley, to the west of Nantes, the Dervallières outdoor swimming pool will be extended and modernized to allow annual practice. The project, estimated at 12.5 million euros, will be put to the vote of the elected representatives of the Nantes city council on Friday.

The main idea is to add a 25 m covered basin (six water lines). Additional changing rooms and sanitary facilities will obviously be created, as well as reception areas. The exterior part, lighting and waterproofing must also be renovated, while solar panels will be installed on the roof. Work will begin in 2023, the opening is expected for 2025.

The project will facilitate access for schools in the area: up to 120 classes per week can be accommodated at the Dervallières swimming pool. The associative and general public niches will also be widened. Once rehabilitated, the outdoor pools should also be able to remain usable for more months.

La Petite-Amazonie closed for almost a year

Moreover, the Petite-Amazonie swimming pool, Malakoff district, will close for almost a year from July 2022 in order to undergo major renovations. This will involve, in particular, solving water leakage problems. The city will take the opportunity to carry out sustainable maintenance work. The swimming pool will not reopen until May 2023. The cost of the operation is estimated at 2.7 million euros.

Last week, Nantes Métropole announced the creation of a swimming pool to Olympic standards (50 m pool) in Rezé by 2026-2028. It will be assigned primarily to sports practices.
