Netherlands deprived of rehearsals due to ‘incident’ involving singer

From our special correspondent in Malmö (Sweden)

During the first rehearsal of the final on Friday afternoon, Joost Klein appeared on stage at the Malmö Arena during the presentation of the Eurovision 2024 candidates. But, around twenty minutes later, when it would have been his turn to sing Europapa, it did not appear. The tables for Luxembourg and Israel, between which he was to appear for the Netherlands, followed one another without any explanation being given.

The EBU (European Broadcasting Union), which oversees the competition, issued a statement explaining that it was “investigating” an “incident involving the Dutch artist” and that it would not repeat “until further notice “.

In the process, it was possible to note that Joost Klein had deleted all his stories on Instagram concerning his participation in Thursday’s semi-final at the end of which he won his ticket for Saturday’s final.

Will the Netherlands be disqualified and will the final be played with twenty-five and not twenty-six players? The answer should not take long to be communicated. In any case, still during this first rehearsal, an extract from the Dutch performance from the day before appeared in the summary for the call for votes, as if nothing had happened.
