Netflix Documentary: Barack Obama Wins Emmy for Best Narrator – Media

Former US President Barack Obama has won an Emmy for the first time. The 61-year-old won the Best Narrator category for his voice role in the Netflix documentary series Our Great National Parks awarded, said the US Television Academy. In the five-part series, which Obama also co-produced, he presents national parks from all over the world – in a “snuggly blanket-like manner,” as SZ author Cornelius Pollmer describes it.

After his tenure as US President, Barack Obama and his wife Michelle founded the production company “Higher Ground” and signed a contract with Netflix. The Obamas’ first film, the documentary “American Factory” about precarious working conditions in the USA’s Rust Belt, won an Oscar. In addition, the audio versions of Obama’s memoirs “The Audacity of Hope” and “A Promised Land” each received Grammy awards.

The Emmys are America’s most important television awards. The winners in the main categories will be announced in Los Angeles on the night of September 13th. In individual categories, however, the winners will be announced in advance. Obama defeated Lupita Nyong’o (Serengeti II) and David Attenborough (The Mating Game) through. The favorites among the series this year include: Squid Game and Succession.
