Nest protection: Only corona vaccinations during pregnancy help babies

High nest protection when mothers during the pregnancy receive a booster vaccination

A comparison of both groups – children whose mothers had received vaccination doses either before or during pregnancy – shows a clear difference: children of women vaccinated during pregnancy were 41.5 percent protected against infection, while the others were only 15.4 percent protected.

The protection was best when the mothers had received the booster dose (44.4 percent) compared to only the second vaccination (37.6 percent protection for the children). The timing of the vaccination during the pregnancy, however, played no role; the level of protection was between 43.8 and 45.5 percent in all cases. If the mothers even received a vaccination booster adapted to the then dominant XBB variant, protection rose to 76.7 percent.

Pregnant women have in Germany Right to a booster vaccination against Corona

For women who are already fully vaccinated and may have already had a third vaccination, this means that another booster should be considered during pregnancy. You can give your children helpful protection for the first six months.

Since pregnant women belong to the corona risk groups, the Standing Vaccination Commission (Stiko) is currently recommending that they receive a booster vaccination. This means that the health insurance company covers the costs.
