Neither seismic, nor linked to army planes… The unexplained “tremors” felt from Cannes to Fréjus

“Did you feel the earthquake too? “Everything has moved”. “The bay windows vibrated”. Wednesday afternoon, around 5 p.m., testimonies flourish from Cannes (Alpes-Maritimes) to Fréjus (Var). In messages posted on social networks, people from the Côte d’Azur are convinced that they have witnessed several “earthquakes”. Even the mayor of the city of festivals David Lisnard (LR) evokes on Twitter “two consecutive tremors” and recalls that “the seismic risk in our sector is not of the order of the myth”.

Except that here, neither the French Central Seismological Bureau, nor the National Seismic Monitoring Network noted any significant event at that time. The overflight of military planes would therefore be in question? Neither. This thesis, however, considered the most probable among informed observers, is invalidated 20 minutes by the army.

“The phenomenon felt on Wednesday May 31 does not correspond to any mission or particular activity of the Air and Space Force, and in particular to any supersonic flight”, assured us a spokesperson. The truth is elsewhere and the mystery remains, to date, whole.
