Basketball superstar LeBron James had to accept a disappointment just before reaching the NBA point record. The 38-year-old is concerned that his buddy Kyrie Irving is moving to the Dallas Mavericks and not to his Los Angeles Lakers.

“I can’t sit here and say that I’m not disappointed that we didn’t bring in such a gifted player. A player with whom I had great team chemistry. I think that can help win titles,” he said four-time NBA champion James in an interview with ESPN.

Playmaker Irving called for a timely transfer from the Brooklyn Nets last Friday. But the New York club decided to trade with the Dallas Mavericks, who are sending Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith to the Nets, among others. James and Irving won the NBA title with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2016.

James is poised to break Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s 30-year-old points record in the NBA. Abdul-Jabbar has 38,387 points, Lakers star James currently has 38,352. If he manages to score 36 points or more in the home game against the Oklahoma City Thunder on Wednesday (4:00 a.m./CET), he would become the sole record holder in the prestigious category.
