Julian Nagelsmann (36) spoke at the press conference before the international match in Austria (Tuesday, 8:45 p.m., ZDF/ live in the ticker on bild.de). BVB star Mats Hummels (34) was also there and answered the journalists’ questions.
An important topic: the role of Kai Havertz (24), who played as a left-back against Turkey and was criticized afterwards despite scoring. Nagelsmann congratulations to the new Rapid trainer
“Congratulations, I didn’t know that, otherwise I would have already written to him,” says Nagelsmann when told that his former assistant Robert Klauß is the new coach at Rapid Vienna. Most recently, Klauss sat on the coaching bench at 1. FC Nürnberg in the 2nd Bundesliga for more than two years until October 2022. Klauß had previously worked as an assistant coach at RB Leipzig not only under Nagelsmann, but also under the current Austrian team boss Ralf Rangnick.
“There won’t be any big changes”
Nagelsmann on the line-up against Austria: “I’ll wait for the final training session. I don’t coach at all, I just watch and then decide how to line up. There won’t be any major changes, just slight adjustments.”
Hummels the situation at BVB
“Regardless of our last results, we (Dortmunder) are always happy to be at the DFB. But I’m not here to talk to BVB about the next few weeks.”
“It wasn’t that much fun that we were booed.”
Nagelsmann speaks again about the Turkey game and the atmosphere in the stadium: “There were a lot of Turkish spectators in the stadium and it was loud. I never like it when someone gets booed. The fact that we were booed wasn’t that much fun.” With regard to the home European Championships, he says: “I’m sure that the German fans will give us maximum support. We are responsible for creating euphoria.”

“It gets exciting when the draw is made because it’s not in your hands. Then we prepare meticulously.” Hummels added: “I haven’t really thought about it yet.”
“Four months without training is a lot”
Nagelsmann on the long international break after the Austria game: “It’s always the case that the leagues play again after an international break, so the public perception is different again. What bothers me more is the break itself. Four months without training is a lot, but we can manage it.”
Hummels about a possible contract extension
“I will keep this open for a very long time. I’m really enjoying this right now. It’s fun at the moment and I’m happy that I can still play along despite my age. It’s a cliche, but time will tell.”

“Yes, of course we’ve already talked about it. It’s a nice duel, I have good memories of the stadium. I played with David Alaba in Munich and talked to him about it last week. It will be a good game, I think.”
