Uber Eats users encountered some difficulties on Monday getting their meals delivered. Unions have called delivery workers for a national strike on December 2 and 3 due to the change in remuneration “without consultation” by the meal delivery platform.
“Since November 1, all Uber Eats delivery drivers have suffered a significant drop in their income” following “the implementation of a new algorithm, opaque and incomprehensible, calculating the amount of their trips,” denounced the CGT and Union Indépendants in a joint press release.
Delivery people demand transparency
Protest movements by Uber Eats couriers punctuated the month of November. The latter met with the platform and the API (Association of Independent Platforms) on November 6, without managing to find a compromise, according to the unions. They demand the withdrawal of the new pricing as well as “transparency of the price of races and a significant increase in remuneration”, according to the press release.
Uber Eats has just launched a new pricing system throughout France that Union Indépendants accuses of causing a “drastic drop in remuneration”, estimated at 10% to 40% “compared to the previous price scale”. “If this change may cause certain races to vary upwards or downwards, it is not intended to reduce the average remuneration per race,” the platform defended itself to AFP on Monday.
In the three pilot cities where the experiment was launched (Avignon, Lille and Rouen), “the average remuneration for races (…) remained stable with an average increase in income per race of 1.4%”, he said. -she assured. “This change is part of a global evolution of the Uber Eats pricing system around the world,” she further clarified. Uber Eats has 65,000 independent delivery drivers in France who connect to its application.
