In his last press conference as national coach, Joachim Löw reviewed his DFB career. Two defeats stuck in his mind for very different reasons.
Jürgen Klinsmann brought him to the DFB team 17 years ago as an assistant coach, and for 15 years he managed the fortunes of national coach himself: Tuesday evening ended with the 0-2 defeat against England the tenure of Joachim Loew. The day after, he took a final position at a press conference.
The experience at Wembley was one of his worst moments, said Löw. Only one negative experience in the 13 years topped that. “The bitterest defeat I had to experience in retrospect was in the semifinals against France in 2016. This world title is the highlight of the Löw era. For him, however, there is more than just winning this trophy. “When I remember our conversations in 2008, when we were thinking about what it took to be among the best in the world over the long term – it was above all that we had to improve enormously in terms of football, that we needed a culture, and not to be able to play only live from the German virtues, “said Löw.
He also said: “And what we then achieved in 2010, 2016, 2017, these development steps that we made – this team has been at the top for many years and we were a benchmark for many. We did with our style , our football enthuses a lot of people and that is a great satisfaction for me. ”
