Azerbaijan announced victory over Armenians in Nagorno-Karabakh on Wednesday evening. In a one-day military operation, control over the region in the South Caucasus was restored, President Aliyev said in a televised speech. The operation is over. According to a human rights activist from the separatist camp, at least 200 people were killed in Azerbaijan’s military offensive in the breakaway region of Nagorno-Karabakh. The information could not initially be confirmed independently. However, protests flared up in Armenia’s capital Yerevan. The participants there called for more support for their compatriots in Nagorno-Karabakh. There were riots. Representatives of the Azerbaijani government and the Nagorno-Karabakh Armenians want to meet for talks on Thursday. The aim is to reintegrate the enclave into the Azerbaijani state.
