Nadja Tiller: She was the girl Rosemarie – her life, her films

Nadja Tiller died in Hamburg at the age of 93. She was one of the best-known and internationally most successful German-language film stars of the 1950s and 1960s. Tiller was born on March 16, 1929 in Vienna. She comes from a family of artists: her father Toni was an actor, her mother an operetta singer. After studying acting, she initially had engagements in the theater. In 1949 she was elected Miss Austria.

Director Rolf Thiele discovered her for the film in 1955, and her role in “Die Barrings” brought her her artistic breakthrough alongside Dieter Borsche. Over the next few decades, she acted in more than 70 films. These include ten works by her discoverer Thiele, who also shot her most famous film: Tiller became world famous with her role as a noble prostitute in the film “Das Mädchen Rosemarie” in 1958 and from then on also took part in international productions.

Her private life was stable: she was married to actor Walter Giller from 1956 until his death in 2011. She survived him by eleven years.
