The director of Horses of god and Much Loved succeeds its third visit to Cannes. “I wouldn’t be a filmmaker if I hadn’t had the chance to attend a cultural center in Sarcelles, in the Parisian suburb where I grew up. I learned a lot of things there and in particular that having several origins was an advantage and not a handicap ”, he explained during the press conference.

“I knew the first hip-hop sounds that came from the United States in the 1980s and I understood how powerful this music of social claim was and how much we at Sarcelles could do with it. take hold to be heard, ”says Nabil Ayouch. Nabil Ayouch surrounded himself with students from a real cultural center to shoot this film which gracefully evolves between freedom and fiction. Religion, the way we live it, women’s rights and the weight of the family are very present. They are approached without taboos in the lyrics of the songs as in the discussions. Without playing the lesson givers, the director asks good questions and lets his heroes and the spectator answer them. The film offers a great dose of hope and music.
