The federal government is doing too little for old-age security, says Monika Schnitzer. The chairwoman of the Economic Wise Men demands that pensions rise more slowly – and that the state melts particularly high pensions.

There are still empty boxes in the corner of her office. Monika Schnitzer used them to transport documents from the home office back to the Ludwigs-Maximilians-Universität in Munich. Life is back at uni – and work. Schnitzer has plenty of that. The economist is chairwoman of the council of experts, the five-member committee is better known as “the economic wise men”. Schnitzer wants to make pension her topic. Federal Minister of Labor Hubertus Heil (SPD) will soon present a new pension package. It could just be one package. Schnitzer finds that far too little.
