According to the insolvency administrator, the employees of the MV-Werften should receive their December salaries no later than Monday. The “Global One” is to be completed.
A lot has happened overnight, everything that is necessary has been set in motion, said the provisional insolvency administrator Christoph Morgen after a works meeting on Thursday morning in Wismar. The bankruptcy proceedings will be opened from March 1st, until then the wages of the approximately 1,900 employees will be secured.
“Global One” is to be completed
Everyone involved agrees: The cruise ship “Global One”, which is around 75 percent complete in Wismar, should definitely be completed. Whether and how this works is not yet clear, so tomorrow. It is also unclear who would accept the finished ship. Genting Hong Kong is interested in it, but the question is whether the parent company can raise enough money for it.

Challenge: keep skilled workers
Overall, the future of the three shipyard locations in Wismar, Warnemünde and Stralsund remains uncertain – there will be a gap between the completion of “Global One” and a possible conversion of the yard for other maritime services or renewable energies, according to Morgen. The challenge is to keep the skilled workers until then. The first meeting between the insolvency administrator and Genting Hong Kong is due to take place on Friday.
Special session of the state parliament on shipyards
In the afternoon, the state parliament deals with the situation of the insolvent shipyards in a special session. As a spokesman announced, the parliament is advising at the request of the state government. This will submit a report. The MV-Werften had filed for bankruptcy on Monday; the move was preceded by weeks of negotiations between the company, the federal government and the state of Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.
