According to the insolvency administrator, the employees of the MV-Werften should receive their December salaries no later than Monday. The “Global One” is to be completed.

A lot has happened overnight, everything that is necessary has been set in motion, said the provisional insolvency administrator Christoph Morgen after a works meeting on Thursday morning in Wismar. The bankruptcy proceedings will be opened from March 1st, until then the wages of the approximately 1,900 employees will be secured.

“Global One” is to be completed

Everyone involved agrees: The cruise ship “Global One”, which is around 75 percent complete in Wismar, should definitely be completed. Whether and how this works is not yet clear, so tomorrow. It is also unclear who would accept the finished ship. Genting Hong Kong is interested in it, but the question is whether the parent company can raise enough money for it.

Challenge: keep skilled workers

Overall, the future of the three shipyard locations in Wismar, Warnemünde and Stralsund remains uncertain – there will be a gap between the completion of “Global One” and a possible conversion of the yard for other maritime services or renewable energies, according to Morgen. The challenge is to keep the skilled workers until then. The first meeting between the insolvency administrator and Genting Hong Kong is due to take place on Friday.
