Even if they sometimes challenge him or even tease him, the 80 city councilors and the approximately 40,000 employees of the Munich administration can be sure of one thing: the new head of human resources, Andreas Mickisch, does not tend to gasp. Why can you confidently accept that? If you sit in the bathing pool at home every morning after getting up in winter, then you have long since given up the habit of this kind of physical excitement. But Mickisch’s closest employees have to take into account that there are no long start-up times in the office in the morning. The personnel officer elected on Wednesday finds the daily ice bathing “electrifying”. The only thing that can slow him down is caffeine withdrawal. “You can’t do anything without coffee,” he says.
