Munich: Weißenburger Straße is to become a pedestrian zone as a test – the plans – Munich

Anyone who strolls along Weißenburger Straße on this mild October afternoon will quickly notice what makes Haidhausen’s shopping mile so special – but also what it lacks. In front of the small bookstore, two women browse the display, a few steps further beds and clothing are offered. There is also a locksmith, a drinks market and a ceramics workshop on the street. Weißenburger Straße is far removed from the uniformity of German pedestrian zones – on the one hand. On the other hand, the sidewalks are narrow, cars roll close together on the road, and finding a parking space is something of a national sport. And quality of stay, as city planners call it, is as rare in the asphalt desert as cheap rents in Haidhausen.
