Munich: Weed ban for the English Garden and folk festivals? – Which taboo zones are being discussed – Munich

After the partial legalization of cannabis, Bavaria wants to restrict public spaces for smoking weed as much as possible: folk festivals – especially the Oktoberfest – should, if possible, become completely cannabis-free zones. According to information from the German Press Agency, the state government is also considering a ban on weed in the English Garden in Munich.

Beer gardens and outdoor areas of restaurants could also generally be declared taboo zones for cannabis. Nothing concrete was decided at the cabinet meeting on Tuesday, as State Chancellor Florian Herrmann (CSU) said afterwards. The proposals are currently being examined in detail. “The aim is of course to make consumption unattractive,” he emphasized.

In addition, since the aspect of youth protection is given far too little attention in federal law from a Bavarian perspective, they want to “adjust” the Bavarian regulations. The ministries are therefore examining further cannabis “restriction options”, which should be decided at the next opportunity, possibly next week.

Specifically, Herrmann has already promised that municipalities will be authorized to issue regulations so that they can set up cannabis-free zones in their areas – just as it has already been possible with alcohol exclusion zones. “Which would then also be a solution for folk festivals or Oktoberfest, for example, as is expected by the industry,” added Herrmann.
