On the day Russia attacked Ukraine, Tobias Thalhammer witnessed dramatic scenes backstage at a concert hall in Dortmund. The 42-year-old local politician, once for the FDP in the state parliament and since 2018 in the CSU, is the main job owner of a teleproduction company and the concert agency Piosenka Plus, among other things, markets a band, the songs of the rock band Metallica interpreted – and whose members all come from Kyiv. Started a day before the start of the war Scream Inc., that’s the name of the band, on a tour of Germany, not realizing how dramatically the situation at home would develop. “I don’t know if the report was just not clear there or if they just didn’t notice, but they were completely taken aback,” says Thalhammer.
