Five people were slightly injured in a collision between a tram and several cars in Munich. The tram derailed and was later put back on the rails, the fire department said on Wednesday.

Several passers-by saw the accident and called the fire department. When the emergency services arrived on Tuesday evening around 6.40 p.m. on Menzingerstrasse in the Nymphenburg district, all the occupants had already left the vehicles. Two children and three adults were examined by paramedics and taken to hospital with minor injuries.

In the accident, the tram slipped out of the track bed with a slewing ring. In order to get the train back on track, a vehicle involved in an accident had to be pulled away with the rescue vehicle’s cable winch. The tram then drove onto so-called slide plates. With their help, the emergency services were able to push the slewing ring back on track. During the operation, there were significant traffic delays in the affected area. The amount of property damage and the exact course of the accident are currently unknown, the police are investigating.
