Munich: Tollwood paints three tents because of the energy crisis – Munich

The Tollwood team already thought about heating in the summer. At the beginning of August, in view of the looming gas and electricity crisis, the organizers announced that they were working on a new energy concept and, “typically Tollwood”, they wanted to “proceed as an environmental festival and find innovative solutions”. The event management has now presented the master solution: Three tents will be canceled. This does not mean the application of paint that isolates the cold, but that “a lot will take place at this year’s Tollwood Winter Festival Open Air”, according to a press release. Three large tents will not be set up on the Theresiewiese: the Mercato market tent, the dining room dining tent and the Weltsalon culture and activity space. For this, the guests should be able to snuggle up in the same place under open pagodas, protected from precipitation.

The daily cultural program in the world salon is largely canceled. After all, some art installations will be on display outdoors. And with some photo and reportage lectures on journeys from the jungle to the Arctic Circle, they will move to the Grand Chapiteau on three Mondays when there are no games. The dinner variety “Machine de Cirque” usually runs en suite in this theater tent.

At least it gets comfortably warm in the theater tent

It should be “comfortably warm” there, says Tollwood spokeswoman Stefanie Kneer, even if the temperature is lowered somewhat – the degree target is currently being discussed. The temperature in the tent has been controlled by computers for years, for example by distributing warm air under the roof with fans; the system is now to be made even more effective with heat pumps, powered by green electricity, as is the case throughout the festival.

Solar panels can’t help much in winter. But further measures are planned to “reduce the ecological footprint”, such as cold hand washing water in the toilets. “We are currently putting everything to the test in order to make our contribution,” says Technical Manager Biwi Labermeier.

Under the motto “Tatort Future”, the festival this year from November 24 to December 31 deals with the 17 goals for sustainable development of the United Nations from 2015, one of them: affordable and clean energy for everyone. If you don’t want to freeze too much when working for a “world suitable for grandchildren”, you can warm up at the new fire show area or by playing sports on one of the five new curling lanes.
