Munich today – news from June 20th, 2022 – Munich

There are good reasons why you may think that you don’t need a gourmet guide: because you know where you like the food anyway, because you don’t want to spend a lot of money on the food, because you mistrust the testers’ judgment or because they say so and the others like this. However, precisely these reasons can also be the reason for using gourmet guides: to discover something new that tastes good, not to throw your money away at random, because you want to assess the judgment of the testers or because you want to know what one prefers and the other not.

The new German edition of Gault & Millau was published on Monday afternoon, and of course the entire gastronomy scene was again quite curious as to who would be chef of the year, who would be the discovery of the year, who would be the climber of the year, which restaurants had how many points and caps would get compared to last year and so on. My colleague Marten Rolff wrote down for the Panorama why there have been no points since this year, only red and black toques – and of course who has won the most coveted titles and the highest number of toques.

But of course not only the nationwide results are interesting, but also those in Munich. A lot has actually happened here. Gault & Millau has awarded a total of 53 restaurants one to three toques, with the top group of three red chef’s hats including the restaurants ESS, Tantris and Tohru in the Schreiberei. If you want to know more about it, you can read the details here.

And then comes – tataa! – the “climber of the year” also from Munich: Viktor Gerhardinger, head chef in the vegetarian gourmet restaurant Tian at the Viktualienmarkt. Luckily I only met him recently to write a little portrait about him (SZ Plus).

THE DAY IN MUNICH

A first successful search against Putin’s supporters For the first time in Germany, someone who is on EU sanctions lists because of Putin’s war drive against Ukraine is being prosecuted: the Munich public prosecutor’s office had the property of a member of the Duma confiscated. About a find that is no coincidence (SZ Plus).

Tierpark Hellabrunn has meerkats again The Munich Zoo lost all the animals in its small colony last September. They had slept in their cave during the collapse and had no chance of escaping. A revised system should prevent such accidents in the future.

More self-determination for those legally assisted The guardianship law reform strengthens the right to have a say for people who can no longer manage on their own in everyday life. The new rules call for greater commitment from professional supervisors. But there are fewer and fewer of them.

S-Bahn boss questions the expansion of the S 7 Because a second track cannot be realized so quickly, Heiko Büttner is focusing on expanding digitization and autonomous driving in order to increase the capacity of the route to Aying. District politicians disagree.

The tents up! The construction of the Wiesn started three weeks earlier than usual so that damage can be detected and repaired early after the long Corona break. For residents and passers-by, however, this entails restrictions.

“It can escalate further” The public utilities are preparing for emergencies and are advising households in Munich to use less electricity in a targeted manner. But how do you actually save gas in summer when the heating has long since been switched off?

Laura Dornheim is to become the city’s new IT officer The network politician is enthusiastic about open source software, among other things. That’s not the only thing that makes her the preferred candidate for the Greens. Now all that remains is for the entire city council to elect the manager.
