Munich today – news from July 6th, 2022 – Munich

Munich’s green mayor Katrin Habenschaden lives in Aubing. When she takes the S-Bahn to her place of work, the town hall, she passes the Paketposthalle, where Munich’s tallest skyscrapers might be in the not too distant future. What is she thinking as she drives by there? And why does she actually live on the outskirts and not in the middle of Munich? Does she have a secret favorite place in town? And which corners do you like best?

“Munich personally”, the new podcast by the Munich editorial team, is about these and other questions. My colleagues Ulrike Heidenreich and René Hofmann, both heads of the Munich, Region and Bavaria departments, and editor Sabine Buchwald travel a route by tram, bus, subway or S-Bahn and sometimes also by pedicab with interesting personalities that the guests chose themselves. It goes past construction projects that are currently being debated, historical squares and places that are associated with special memories for those questioned.

To start with, Ulrike Heidenreich took the S-Bahn from Aubing to Marienplatz with Katrin Habenschaden. You can hear what the mayor said here. The podcast appears every two weeks, then with personalities such as Andreas Beck, the director of the Residenztheater, the restaurateur and campsite operator Sandra Dürr and Wolfgang Fischer, head of the inner-city company association City-Partner, who can explain exactly how it is the large and small shops in the heart of the city.

THE DAY IN MUNICH

GWG bosses have to go The managing director and the managing director of the municipal housing association are apparently so at odds that both are now losing their jobs. This means that 70,000 Munich residents will have one or two new chief landlords.

The city comes to Ludwigsfeld 1,800 to 2,000 new apartments are to be built in the settlement in the north-west of Munich. This quadruples the number of residents to around 6000. Criticism of this concentration was countered by the city council with reference to a significant improvement in infrastructure.

Bavarian beer is to become a World Heritage Site A new association wants to achieve the coveted status of an intangible world cultural heritage for “Bierland Bayern” at Unesco. Hubert Aiwanger and Alfons Schuhbeck should move things forward, but the hurdles are high.

Every fourth euro flows back After the company’s bankruptcy, eligible investors should get back at least 25 percent of their investments. The insolvency proceedings are likely to drag on until 2025, the Munich location will remain.

Proceedings against so-called deputy sheriffs “with stomach ache” set Three employees of the municipal field service apparently feel they have been stepped on and bring a passer-by to the ground at the main station for no reason. Now they have to pay fines and damages.

“Classic at Odeonsplatz”: Blocking for cars and buses Because of the classical concerts at the weekend, the Odeonsplatz will be closed to cars and buses from Saturday noon until early Monday morning. There are also temporary restrictions for cyclists and pedestrians.

Bahn cancels invitation to debate about second main route The city of Munich wanted to ask the group why the construction should be massively more expensive and delayed. But he refuses.
