Munich today – news from July 5th, 2022 – Munich

When was the last time you let your eyes wander over Munich, for example from the Olympic Tower? From this high up it is easy to see how wind power is doing in and around Munich. Two wind turbines tower up on the autobahn to Nuremberg, and around two dozen more around the state capital. That’s not very many, also because it wasn’t so easy to set up new plants in Bavaria up to now.

Now the Bundestag wants to change the course soon. Areas for wind energy are to become priority areas. For the Munich region, this means that by 2026 a total of 1.1 percent of the area will have to be designated for wind turbines, and by 2032 at the latest it will have to be 1.8 percent, as my colleague Thomas Start reports. Another number makes it clear what that means: up to 400 wind turbines could then be built in Munich and the districts of Dachau, Ebersberg, Erding, Freising, Fürstenfeldbruck, Landsberg, Munich and Starnberg.

A completely different picture would emerge from the view from the Olympic Tower. A nicer one? At first glance, very few would answer “yes”. But is the quick answer really the smart one? The current energy crisis clearly demonstrates that proven energy materials and suppliers can no longer be relied on. Urban society cannot escape the trend towards renewable energies. That’s why I think it’s wiser to turn to the opportunities that the new era brings than to lament the impending loss of the familiar, or to put it another way: it’s about time that wind turbines were considered chic. what do you find Write to us! I look forward to it.
