The Platzl in Munich used to be so well known only because the Hofbräuhaus is located there. Many people now know the Platzl primarily as the kingdom of King Alfonso. There the star and celebrity chef Alfons Schuhbeck not only has two restaurants, the Südtiroler Stuben and the Orlando, but also a cooking school, an ice cream parlor, a chocolate shop and a very, very large spice shop.
But the kingdom of King Alfonso is in danger. Because of Corona and because of “full-bodied announced state aid”, which then did not materialize, according to the master chef, he had to file for bankruptcy for his restaurants and the party service. Nevertheless, the operation continues for the time being. Schuhbeck hopes to get back on his feet with the help of the insolvency administrator and dares to start again. He’s a busy person, hardly anyone in the industry is such a bunch of people, so incredibly hard-working and resourceful when it comes to turning things around cooking into money.
But Schuhbeck also has a decent block on his leg. Two years ago the tax investigators raided his business premises on Platzl, and the investigation is about to be completed. Allegedly it is about the allegation of tax evasion and a sum of more than two million euros. It’s not a stick-out, and it seems a bit strange when Schuhbeck complains about a lack of state aid.
