Munich: The final spurt of carnival at the Viktualienmarkt has begun – Munich

Since the ancient Greeks, people have wondered whether the days of the year have meaning. But that one day of the year has nonsense in mind is undisputed, at least in Germany: the final spurt of carnival begins on “nonsense Thursday”, followed by the foolish weekend, Shrove Monday and Shrove Tuesday, after which everything is over, as is well known.

Munich celebrated the women’s carnival at the Viktualienmarkt, in the most beautiful sunshine and almost – for February – vulgarly warm temperatures. Mayor Katrin Habenschaden (Greens) and municipal consultant Kristina Frank (CSU), as the top Munich market woman, welcomed the guests before the program put together by the Narrhalla took its course: Gardens and dance groups from various carnival societies performed, the royal couple were introduced, and finally the real ones also showed Viktualienmarkt women a little dance.

The official dance of the market women, on the other hand, only takes place on Shrove Tuesday; then Munich has three days of carnival goings on in the pedestrian zone, with two stages at Stachus and Marienplatz and two performances by Mickie Krause there.
