No S-Bahn between the main and Ostbahnhof stations: the main route will be closed this weekend and next because the railways are renewing rails. Passengers have to transfer to buses or the tram.
Due to construction work on the main S-Bahn line, many people will have to switch to other means of transport over the next two weekends. As Deutsche Bahn announced on Monday, the main line tunnel between the main station and Ostbahnhof will be closed on the last weekend in January and the first weekend in February.
Many S-Bahn trains coming from the west end at the main station, in Pasing or at the Hackerbrücke. Most trains from the east terminate at Ostbahnhof. That’s why replacement buses run between Ostbahnhof and Donnersbergerbrücke on both weekends. The tram line 19, which runs parallel to the main S-Bahn line between Munich-Pasing and Munich-Ostbahnhof, will be strengthened, it said.
The timetable changes apply on both weekends from Friday 10.30 p.m. to Monday 4.40 a.m. The S-Bahn trunk line, which is around eleven kilometers long, is one of the busiest railway lines in Europe. According to DB information, a total of nine kilometers of track will be renewed over the next two weekends.
