Munich: Robber attacks eleven gas stations in just two months – Munich

Mario D. insisted on “Lucky Strike without additives” almost every time he robbed a gas station and threatened the cashier with a deceptively real-looking airsoft gun. Of course, it wasn’t just the cigarettes and sometimes whiskey and vodka that the 26-year-old demanded in his series of eleven gas station robberies in Munich in January and February of this year, but also money. In total, D. captured around 5,500 euros.

He actually thought there was “more possible,” he confessed on Monday before the Munich I district court, where he had to answer, among other things, for serious extortion. Mario D. admitted all actions in a statement that his defense attorney Rona Narlioglu read. He cited his “strong need for intoxication” as the motive for the raids. The 26-year-old had lost his security job and needed money for drugs and alcohol and a project his sister wanted to support.

At first he had planned to “pull off” drug couriers, that is, to rob them. Then, however, “unfortunately, the idea of gas stations” came to him. It won’t hurt the oil companies, they have insurance, he thought. On January 5, 2022, shortly before 4 p.m., Mario D. put his plan into action for the first time. He masked himself and attacked a gas station on Kapuzinerstraße. The booty was 925 euros. Nobody was injured in this and the subsequent raids. The 26-year-old said when he was questioned by judge Nicole Selzam that the victims could suffer trauma.

By February 19, ten more raids followed across the city. Mario D. always rode a bike to the gas stations – even after one had been stolen from him. He even robbed the gas station on Kapuzinerstrasse twice. He had thought that the employees there were “more relaxed” because they had already been attacked before, he explained to the representative of the public prosecutor’s office. In all acts “I tried to respond to the people”. He always explained to the cashiers why he was attacking them. The reasons he gave were, however, pretended. Allegedly, the 26-year-old was drunk in all the robberies or was under the influence of narcotics. Nevertheless, his airsoft pistol made an impression on the victims. They hadn’t noticed that he had fixed the gun’s magazine with scotch tape because it kept slipping out.

The target of D’s last robbery on February 19 was a gas station in the Zehntbauernstrasse in Obergiesing. The loot: 950 euros and a stick of “Lucky Strike without additives” worth 64 euros. Just as the 26-year-old was masked in front of the gas station shop, a police patrol drove by and saw him. However, the officers drove on, according to D. The reason: the patrol was allegedly on duty. On February 19, a Saturday, the security conference took place in Munich. Two days later, Mario D. was temporarily arrested.
