MotoGP sprint: Martin wins ahead of Acosta and Quartararo

Only MotoGP writes these stories: Martin wins a crazy sprint race ahead of Acosta, who gets his next top 3 placement, and Quartararo, who also climbs from 23rd on the grid to third thanks to the many crashes.

In the end, Pedrosa only missed third place by five hundredths. Morbidelli is fifth ahead of Raul Fernandez. Marc Marquez saves himself in seventh place. The last points went to Augusto Fernandez and Oliveira.

3:22 p.m

MotoGP sprint: Quartararo third!

After Bezzecchi and Vinales also crashed out, Quartararo is on course for a podium finish. This is really crazy. Pedrosa could still challenge him for third place because he is right behind the Yamaha rider.

Further back, Marc Marquez is fighting for positions after his fall – and against other things against his ex-teammate Mir. Things get tight between the two, the race management punished Marquez for aggressive driving. He has to give up a position.

MotoGP sprint: crash parade

Lap eight is tough: Alex Marquez, Binder and Bastianini go down in turn 5 – without making any contact in parallel flight. Then Marc Marquez also slipped away while he was in the lead in turn 9. Incredible! This means that Martin is suddenly over three seconds ahead of Acosta again.

3:15 p.m

MotoGP sprint: change of lead

Marc Marquez comes closer again and benefits from a mistake by Martin in turn 7. He attacks and takes the lead to the cheers of the home fans. Maybe Martin has vibrations on the rear wheel again that are slowing him down? Because he has to have something torn down right away.

3:12 p.m

MotoGP sprint: Martin with a gap

After five laps, Martin has built up a one-second lead. Marc Marquez and Alex Marquez are fighting for the connection. Binder stays in fourth place, but Bastianini is putting pressure on him from behind. Acosta is sixth.

Behind them are Bezzecchi and Vinales. Quartararo has worked his way forward well and is currently in last place in the points.

3:09 p.m

MotoGP Sprint: Bagnaia out!

Bagnaia has no luck in the sprints this season. Because after Binder has taken on the Marquez brothers, the fight with Bezzecchi and Bagnaia in round three will be close – too close. Because Bagnaia gets trapped and falls. The world champion is out. The incident is under investigation.

3:07 p.m

MotoGP Sprint: Hot duel for P2

3:05 p.m

MotoGP sprint: two crashes

Martin passes Binder during the first few laps. Further back, the race is already over for Aleix Espargaro. He fell. Shortly afterwards, Miller gets it too. But he can continue driving.

Binder wins the start and leads the field into the first lap. Marc Marquez falls behind Marzin in third place. Alex Marquez, Bagnaia and Bezzecchi follow.

2:50 p.m

MotoGP Sprint: What’s the weather doing?

The danger of rain has not been averted. There are always reports of isolated drops here and there. At the moment it is largely dry, so all drivers are on the starting grid with slicks, with the medium tire in front and the soft version on the rear.

Moto2 qualifying: result

Fermin Aldeguer (Speed-Up Boscoscuro; 1st): “I had a really good feeling throughout qualifying. The result is my first pole of the season, which I’m very happy about. Compared to the first races, we have improved a lot with fresh tires. I’m very happy and I want to too be at the forefront tomorrow.”

Albert Arenas (Gresini-Kalex; 2nd): “It’s always a nice feeling to ride here in Jerez. The sun came out and the crowd is incredible. I had a good feeling on the bike and I’m very happy. Now it’s time to concentrate fully on tomorrow.”

Jake Dixon (Aspar-Kalex; 3rd): “After my difficult injury, this was only the second qualifying of the year for me. In America I still had big problems because I was far from being fit again. But the team and WP have also shown patience. In the short time we’ve had so far, my team and I have tried our best, but I think if we put our heads together again today, we can play a role in the race.”
